Itinerary
This year’s dates are: 10th - 26th May 2025
We make the most of the late May bank holiday in the U.K. and only need 2 weeks off work. You would land back in the UK on 26th at the latest, depending on your flights.
Day 1
Transfer from Harare airport to accommodation, meet the rest of the group and get to know each other. We’ll share an evening meal and get our important adventure briefing before getting a good night’s sleep ready for the early start on Day 2!
Day 2
An early breakfast and then start driving out towards the bush - on this long drive we’ll take turns with the driving, starting to learn the vehicles under Graeme’s expert guidance, the landscape and the country. Arrive at either the iconic Chitake Springs or Mana Pools sites to set up camp for the night, make a fire and share stories over dinner.
Day 3-12
Adventuring through remote areas including; Chitake Springs; Mana Pools; (featured on the BBC documentary series 'Dynasty'); Matusadonna and Hwange.
Every day on adventure is different and is dependent on many factors in the environment, including temperature, location and wildlife activity. If we’ve heard of a sighting we might take the decision to drive out and investigate. Some days we’ll be taking a drive to explore, and some days we will be walking through this fascinating landscape, guided by Graeme. Walking is a great way to slow down even further and become more attuned to the environment as we explore on foot.
We’ll learn about adventure ‘bush’ life including safety, tracking (identifying animals’ tracks and spoor), wildlife and environmental impacts, conservation, as well as learning skills that we use in adventure life.
During the adventure we’re on ‘safari time’ - or bush time. We’re usually up with the light and off to bed not too long after dark. This enables us to get the most out of the experience as much of the wildlife can be active in the mornings and around dusk. Some mornings will be more leisurely and some will be speedier when we need to get on the road early enough to get to our next destination. Each day we’ll play an active part in adventure team life including learning how to do vehicle checks, set up and break camp leaving no trace, making fire etc.
On the days that we’re in camp and not driving to our next destination, there will be downtime in the middle of the day to enjoy relaxing and a siesta.
We’ll be staying in most areas long enough that it doesn’t feel rushed, whilst moving through the country and experiencing each spectacular place.
Some nights we’ll be camped on the banks of the mighty Zambezi…other nights we’ll be in the bush beneath the giant baobab trees with a view of the hills. Some nights we will aim to book 'exclusive' use of campsites at the best locations in the national parks - which is absolutely stunning to experience.
Throughout the trip I will be providing opportunities for coaching and reflection, sharing tools and exercises that help boost your confidence, release some limiting beliefs and fully embed the learning and the magic of the experience so that you can take this and integrate it into your day-to-day life. There will also be the opportunity to join guided meditations at quiet points andto learn and use other personal development practices to ensure you get the most from this immersive experience.
Day 12
Drive to the Matopos Hills to meet overland adventure legend and author Dot Bekker and hear about her epic solo journey driving from the U.K. to Zimbabwe and her life in rural ZImbabwe. Enjoy a traditional meal cooked by local residents. Camp on Dot’s land with an absolutely stunning view.
Day 13
Visit Dot’s neighbours in the rural community, learning about their way of life. Spend some time exploring the Matopos, possibly trying to track rhino (optional). Camp in the Matopos National Park.
Day 14
Drive to Victoria Falls. Arrive at our luxury accommodation and freshen up! Option to visit the Falls before dinner that evening (dependent on timing of arrival), and enjoy a final celebratory dinner together and reflect on our epic experience.
Day 15
Enjoy your last breakfast in Zimbabwe and visit the Falls - either for the first time, or returning if you went the night before! (I can never stay away from them!)
Head to the Victoria Falls airport to begin your journey home…
